Quran versus cell phone

Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Quran like we treat
our cell phone?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we flipped through it several time a day?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?

What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

What if we used it when we traveled?

What if we used it in case of emergency?

This is something to make you go….hmm…where is my Quran?

Oh, and one more thing.

Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Quran being

Makes you stop and think ‘where are my priorities? And no dropped calls!

Time Management

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

By the declining day, (1) Lo! man is a state of loss, (2) Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance. (3)

Scene: A normal classroom. Teacher calling roll call. Students trying to settle down for an hour of boredom. Suddenly, the earth is shaking. Students screaming and crying out. It’s an earthquake. Faces of my loved ones start flashing before my eyes. What if I never see my mum again? What if I never get to apologize to my dad for last night’s fighting match? And what if this is how I am going to die?

This is what set me thinking of how precious my life is. On second thoughts, it is priceless. Hours after the earthquake this thought kept coming back to haunt me of how fragile this life is and how easily it can be taken from us. I kept thinking what I am going to say to Allah (swt) when he is going to ask me how I spent my life and specially, how I spent my youth. Sadly, I realized I had nothing take with me for the real life. Nothing that will make Allah pleased with me. I realized that I was as empty handed as I was the day I was born.

How many times have you left things to do for tomorrow? How many times have you thought I would do so and so thing in a few days? How many times have you thought of apologizing to someone you hurt later? How many times have you thought of later? But have we ever thought “what if there’s no later?” , “what if things won’t be the same later?” “ what if this day is the last one?” , “what if there’s no tomorrow?”

What will make us ready for that final judgment? In Surah Al-Asr, Allah says that only those people are not at loss who

  1. Believe in Allah and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H),
  2. Do good deeds,
  3. Help others in doing good deeds and
  4. Help each other in practicing patience.

Believing in Allah, as I used to think was just knowing that Allah is watching us and He knows what we are doing, but I was proved wrong. Believing is submitting to Him completely and submitting to our Prophet (P.B.U.H)

Bukhari :: Book 9 :: Volume 92 :: Hadith 404

Narrated ‘Aisha:

The Prophet did something as it was allowed from the religious point of view but some people refrained from it. When the Prophet heard of that, he, after glorifying and praising Allah, said, “Why do some people refrain from doing something which I do? By Allah, I know Allah more than they.”

Our life is not increasing, our time is ending, drop by drop we are losing the priceless gem of time. It is high time,we merge our life and our religion.Submitting to Allah today will allow us to enter Jannah tomorrow. Everything must be according to Sunnah, our manners, our actions and our day to day activities. Nothing is permanent but if today we sacrifice our egos for the sake of Allah (swt) we will gain eternal Jannah. Utilize your time in thinking of ways that will please Allah and then implementing those in your life.

Make the atmosphere around you better so that it helps you practice religion freely. For this purpose we will have to find ways to make people do good deeds. We will have to hone ourselves to such an extent that people will follow our example. We will have to guard ourselves against evil and stop ourselves from wrongdoing. Becoming helpful to any person who is a practicing Muslim will also help us become more practicing because we will have company. Think of new ways of spreading religion through our actions and through our words. But in this regard we’ll have to be patient and consistent in our struggles because a true Muslim is patient who never wastes his time or energy over something that will not benefit him in terms of Akhirah. Life is precious so don’t waste in in activities that are meaningless. A true Muslim should be focused and Akhirah oriented.

Be careful, not about your days or hours but about your seconds as this is what we are accountable for. On the Day of Judgment, we will be asked as to how we spent our time, our youth, our money and what we acquired in the name of knowledge. To be prepared for this questionnaire we have to spend our every waking moment in search of ways to improve our chances of pleasing Allah. Respect your time and the time of others too. Manage your time and to do so follow the example of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and his companions as they are the best examples time and history has to offer.

Our beloved Prophet (P.B.U.H) said to spend our life in this world as if we are strangers or travelers. We are the travelers of Allah’s path and should tread carefully, not pausing over things that will lead us astray and waste our time. Think of every day as your last day and do your best to come nearer to Allah every passing moment. Pray to Allah to make us aware of our duty and the value of time and to help us in utilizing in a manner that will make us the beloved of Allah (swt). Allah puts barakah in the time of those who use their time in doing well and bringing people closer to Allah. Deprived and at a great loss are those who do not respect their time and waste this priceless commodity. May Allah give us the strength and opportunity to put every moment to use in His path and may He accept our endeavors .Amen.
